MASONRY DESIGN
Structural masonry was traditionally very widely used in civil and structural works including tunnels, bridges, retaining walls and sewerage systems. It is still by far the most popular way to build properties. About 70% of all self-builders in the UK choose this type of masonry construction.
Masonry has excellent structural, thermal and acoustic properties. Furthermore, it displays good resistance to fire and the weather. Unlike steelwork, masonry does not require regular maintenance nor suffer from the durability problems of concrete in long term. Most types of masonry typically will not require painting and so can provide a structure with reduced life-cycle costs. Masonry products are readily available, locally sourced within the UK and therefore do not cause significant carbon emission generated by importing timber. Another great advantage with modern masonry construction is that it is tried and tested.
We deliver design of masonry structures to British Standards, Eurocode 6, design manuals published by The Institution of Structural Engineers.
